Creating a business page is probably the most important step you can take in your efforts to generate business from the 900 million or so people who now use the phenomenon that is Facebook.
Setting up a basic page is easy enough – but you can take your Facebook marketing to the next level with these free tools…
(NB This post is an excerpt from the free report ’7 Free Tools To Rock Your Facebook Business Page’ which you can download free from our Facebook page here.)
Tool 1: Hootsuite
http://www.hootsuite.com
To get the most out of your Facebook page you’ll need to engage your audience consistently. Hootsuite is a ‘social media dashboard’ that will simplify your social media efforts massively, in two ways.
Firstly, with Hootsuite you can pre-schedule your status updates – which means that no matter what you’re doing, or where you are, you can maintain your Facebook presence, as well as space out your updates to avoid overwhelming your audience. Away for the weekend, or on holiday? Your Facebook presence doesn’t have to suffer.
Secondly, if you’re using Facebook then chances are you use other social networks too. Hootsuite can save you huge amounts of time by allowing you to manage your Facebook page plus up to four other social media accounts (including your personal Facebook page, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube) from one place online.
So, rather than login to all your separate accounts, you can post across your various social networks in an instant.
Tool 6: CrowdBooster

I love Crowdbooster. When you connect your Facebook page to it, it will analyse data from your previous posts to work out the best times to post to reach and engage the most people.
Amongst other things, it will also tell you:
- How many people are seeing your posts, with a clever graphical interface, plus fan growth and other useful statistics.
- A leaderboard showing who your most engaged fans are. This is important because it’s smart to give your ‘superfans’ some special treatment.
- In a handy weekly email, what your best post of the week has been, and what times you should post in the next week for maximum impact.
All these features make Crowdbooster a really powerful tool, especially when you combine it with the next one…
Tool 7: Buffer
http://bufferapp.com
Buffer is a great labour saving, set-and-forget application that makes it easy to share useful content in a couple of clicks, WITHOUT overwhelming your fans with too many updates at any one time.
Once installed and connected up to your Facebook page (and/or Twitter account), in the top right of your browser you’ll see a small Buffer icon.
Any time you see something on the net that you’d like to share with your audience, hit the Buffer icon and Buffer will send it – BUT it will only send it at the next available time slot pre-defined by you.
For example, you might set your update schedule within Buffer to 9am, 12pm, and 5pm. Now, it doesn’t matter how many updates you add to Buffer, each update will be spread out and sent only at the next available time. That’s the ‘buffer’! And, that way, you know you’re not overwhelming your fans with too many updates in too short a space of time.
As you can imagine therefore, Buffer is something that works beautifully with the information you can get from Crowdbooster; Crowdbooster tells you the best time to post updates, and Buffer allows you to make sure you hit those times, without having to think about it.
